The Hornby Scholarship at the University of Exeter supports experienced English language teaching professionals from low- and middle-income countries who wish to advance their expertise through the MEd TESOL programme. The scholarship aims to strengthen the global field of English language teaching by investing in educators who demonstrate leadership potential, a commitment to professional development, and a clear vision for impact in their home countries.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the 2026 University of Exeter Hornby Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a resident of, and currently working in, a low- or middle-income country listed on the OECD DAC list
- Have a minimum of three years of full-time TESOL teaching experience or related professional work after completing their first degree
- Already hold an undergraduate degree with results equivalent to a UK upper second-class honours (2:1) or higher, or a relevant postgraduate qualification
- First submit a standard postgraduate application to the University of Exeter for the MEd TESOL programme and obtain an Exeter student number
- This student number will be required when submitting the Hornby Scholarship application
Benefits of the 2026 University of Exeter Hornby Scholarship
Successful recipients will receive:
- Full tuition fee coverage for the MEd TESOL programme
- A stipend of at least £15,500, paid monthly, to cover accommodation and living expenses
- (Exact stipend amount will be confirmed upon acceptance)
- Return international airfare, covering travel to and from the UK
