The University of Oxford and the Mastercard Foundation have partnered to offer a transformative opportunity for young African scholars under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program and the Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx). This program is dedicated to empowering 400 African students to pursue fully-funded Master’s degrees related to pandemic preparedness and recovery at the University of Oxford.

- Eligibility:
- To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to meet the following criteria:
- Be of African nationality.
- Submit their application via the University of Oxford graduate admissions portal by the deadline for their chosen course and indicate interest in AfOx funding.
- Meet necessary residence considerations (refugee or displaced backgrounds are eligible).
- Be part of a group that has been historically underrepresented, including but not limited to female scholars, people with disabilities, and individuals from refugee or displaced backgrounds.
Scholarship Coverage
The Mastercard AfOx Scholarship provides comprehensive support, including:
- Full Cost Coverage: Tuition fees and living expenses for international students.
- Logistics Support:
- Economy return flight.
- Visa and Immigration Health Surcharge fees.
- Settling down allowance.
- Access to a Thrive Fund for emergencies.
- Leadership and Impact Programme: A one-year program fostering collaborative leadership and interdisciplinary solutions for social and environmental challenges, in partnership with the Skoll Centre for Social Enterprise.
- Ubuntu Period of Service: After completing their Master’s program, scholars participate in a 4–6 month placement with leading organizations across Africa.
